Was watching Morning Joe the other day and he interviewed Dexter Filkins (The Forever War).
Filkins followed Marines around Baghdad in 2006–during the worst times. He said in one battle which he was in as an embedded reporter, he was scared to death-knew he was going to die.
Scared, that is, until he looked over at the commanding officer. Calm as a cucumber. Loading his gun. Calmly giving orders. His wits about him. No fear at all.
That’s the day he gave up fear.
What About Your Team in This Crisis?
With the economic news as it is and the anxiety around the future economy, are you comforting your team? Are you communicating with them, telling them where you stand on things…and how they can continue to be successful?
Or, are you nowhere to be found…avoiding issues that everyone is talking about?
The coming downturn–who knows where it’ll end–will be unnerving for those that haven’t been through such times. It might pay dividends to lead with calm and confidence. It might inspire those around you.
