How We Work

“A Good leader inspires other men and women with confidence. A Great leader inspires them with confidence in themselves.” –Reed Markham (Author)

The Leadership Institute is a place of learning dedicated to growing tomorrow’s leaders–and taking them to their next level of proficiency.

To do that, we have devised a system that works regardless of the assignment. Below is the graphic and a brief description of each area.

  1. Assessment. It will be most difficult to know what to work on until we assess each of your managers/leaders. We use the Hogan Assessment, which we believe to be the most revealing and useful tool on the market. 360 Degree feedback might also be appropriate here.
  2. Total Awareness. The most revealing part of this process is the concept of “Awareness.” The fact is that most of us are unaware of how our behavior impacts others around us. We will make each participant aware of their Natural Skills, Personal Drivers, and Potential Derailers.
  3. Analyze Competencies. Then we’ll analyze our findings and compare them to what’s required of each person in the role they currently have. Some people might not be a great fit for the position they’re in. Or you may have some that just need coaching to make them more “role proficient.”
  4. Create Curriculum and Coaching. Then, we create a customized curriculum to coach and train. Fact: Not all gaps can be closed. Your team may have some skills that just can’t be coached. Or, people may have derailers that just can’t be checked. But most of the time, you can get significant improvement. This can be individual coaching or small group learning.
  5. Great Leaders. At the top of the pyramid is the Ultimate Objective: Great Leaders. Jim Collins talks about “getting the right people on the bus.” We agree with that. But we also know that you may already have people on the bus that need developed. And this is the process to do just that.
