Are Your People Really Motivated?

by Bill Caskey on October 16, 2008

This might seem like a loaded question. Especially because so many leaders complain of the lack of motivation.

But I submit that your people ARE motivated–supremely motivated to do exactly what they’re doing. They’re living out their commitments.

“But what if they aren’t doing what I want them to do?”

Well that’s a whole different story. But it’s the real question: “How can I motivate them to do what’s right for the company?” And that requires you to know what motivates them–and to know how to compensate them accordingly. Not easy to do, but it can be done.

A profile we use called Hogan can actually do that. It inventories the Motives and Drivers of a person. It’s actually the only Instrument we’ve found that does this in a way that’s easy to read and do something about.

If you have any questions about how it might serve as a leadership tool to help know how to motivate your people–and to know what environment they need to be motivated, call us and we’ll have a brief conversation about it.
